The Curriculum
WEEK 1 — SOUTH AMERICA | June 8-12
Children experiment with different fiber art forms from Peru, Guatemala, and Colombia. Projects include creating a colorful mola tapistry in the style of Panama's Kuna people, sewing an elastic-waist ribbon skirt inspired by Maya weavers of Guatemala, and creating an Apilleras, a colorful tapistry from Peru.
WEEK 2 — NORTH AMERICA | June 15-19
Children explore textile traditions from different Native American tribes. Projects include a medicine bag, a beaded Wampum cuff bracelet, a Seminole Native American quilt sample, and a dreamcatcher.
WEEK 3— Africa | June 29- July 3
A vibrant week celebrating the bold patterns and colors of West and East Africa. Projects include a kente-inspired adinkra-stamped cloth, a sewn drawstring pouch, and a beaded bracelet in traditional Maasai style.
WEEK 4 — Europe | July 6-10
Scotland, tartan fabrics exploration, and ragdoll creation. Ireland, linen fabric, Celtic Knotwork, and sewing a simple apron. France, Lavender Sachet Bag with Ribbon Trim
WEEK 5— ASIA | July 13-17
This week explores the rich textile heritage of India, & Indonesia, Blockprinting techniques..Cashmere stuffy or silk eyemask.Batik printing /sewing tablecloth or napkins
